AI-designed independent study

A curriculum built around one learner.

These are not generic online courses. I work with Sofia, an AI study mentor, to design focused programs around what I want to understand, find the strongest readings and exercises, and shape the material into a format I can sustain alongside work.

The breakthrough is personal fit: new itineraries, explanations, and feedback can be created for how I learn, then revised as my questions and understanding change.

Week 1: Thinking in Models

What models are, why they simplify, and how to judge whether a simplification helps.

Open Work

8 items from the current week

  1. Practice Choose one live decision you actually care about, preferably related to study, work, health, money, or time.
  2. Practice Write the decision as a simple model: options, constraints, variables, likely tradeoffs, and one predicted choice.
  3. Practice List at least five assumptions. Mark each as realistic, simplifying-but-useful, or possibly misleading.
  4. Practice Rewrite the same decision as a psychological situation: attention, motivation, emotion, habit, identity, and social pressure.

What AI Changes

AI is not an add-on to these studies. It helps create and run a form of individualized education that was previously difficult to assemble alone.

01

Design the program

Turn my interests, constraints, and existing knowledge into a coherent micro-program instead of following a one-size-fits-all syllabus.

02

Curate the work

Find and organize required readings, supporting material, exercises, and deliverables around a clear learning sequence.

03

Learn with Sofia

Ask questions, review exercises, explain difficult ideas in different ways, and use confirmed progress to guide what comes next.

04

Make learning visible

Use the site as context for future AI sessions and as public evidence of serious self-study: curricula, work, progress, and evolving thinking that others can inspect.

Designed around how I learn

These are the constraints and preferences I give Sofia when we design a study program. They are not universal recommendations; they explain why the resulting itinerary looks different from a standard course.

Built around real interests
Start from questions I genuinely want to understand, then combine disciplines when one field alone would give an incomplete answer.
Serious but part-time
Borrow the coherence and rigor of university study while remaining sustainable alongside an ordinary working life.
The best available reading
Build each program around academically recognized books, peer-reviewed research, expert reference works, and university-level textbooks. Prefer writing that is rigorous enough to inspect and revisit.
Understanding over credentials
Optimize for better questions, clearer explanations, and defensible judgment rather than exams, certificates, or career signaling.

Context as Content

The public site is both the learning artifact and the context AI agents use. Curriculum lives in durable routes; learner state lives in plain JSON; notes and completed work show how understanding develops over time.

This does not turn self-study into a formal credential. It makes the work legible and credible in a way solo learning often is not. A week becomes complete only when Sergio explicitly confirms it, with Git history as the audit trail.

Study Layout

Student's Book

Programs, modules, and the upper half of each week explain what is being studied, why it matters, and how the readings fit together.

Workbook

Week pages carry the working surface: practice prompts, deliverables, and the explicit criteria Sergio must confirm before progress changes.

Record

Confirmed state stays separate from curriculum. The site can guide the work, but only explicit confirmation updates the learner record.
